The three new Star Wars movies announced at last year’s Star Wars Celebration in London have been the subject of some rather murky and controversial news lately. We now officially know that the next Star Wars film will be The Mandalorian and Grogu, which is coming in cinemas in May 2026 and is currently in the works. So far, there has been no official confirmation from Lucasfilm about the next film production, or exactly which one it will be. However, we have been told that the next Star Wars film is expected to be shot at Pinewood Studios in the UK from November 2025.

A source close to Pinewood has shared the information with Rebo.hu that Lucasfilm will be based at Pinewood Studios in England between November 2025 and May 2026 for the next Star Wars film. Previously, the sequel trilogy, the anthology films and several Disney+ series have been shot there. Lucasfilm will be wedged right between Marvel Studios productions, right in between the next two Avengers films The Russo brothers are set to move out of the studio in November 2025, which means that’s as far as Avengers: Doomsday will shoot. The team will then take an extended break until July 2026, when they will return to film Avengers: Secret Wars. Lucasfilm could use the seven months between the two Marvel productions to film its next Star Wars movie.

Which Star Wars film could be filmed in Pinewood?

As to which film may be shot at this time, our source could not confirm. So far, it seemed that the New Jedi Order film, set after The Rise of Skywalker could be the next film, directed by Shameen Obaid-Chinoy. Daisy Ridley previously said that the film could start shooting in 2025, which is in line with the above rumour. However, according to the latest news, the film has been postponed because the script was not ready in time and Lucasfilm does not want to rush the film. According to Puck News, screenwriter Steven Knight may have left the project, so if this is true, the film may not be ready in time for December 2026.

It could be replaced by a Dawn of the Jedi film directed by James Mangold, which would tell the origin story of the Jedi 25,000 years before the Skywalkers. Mangold can start work on his Star Wars film as soon as he finishes his biopic of Bob Dylan, Complete Unknown. Rumour has it that the earliest this could happen is late 2025, which would confirm the above statement. The film will be directed and written by Mangold and co-written by Beau Willimon, who previously worked on the first season of Andor. The third film, Dave Filoni’s Star Wars movie, is even further away, as Lucasfilm’s Chief Creative Officer is now primarily busy working on The Mandalorian and Grogu and the second season of Ahsoka. Disney currently has three dates for Star Wars films. The Mandalorian and Grogu is coming on May 22, 2026, while the other films could arrive on December 18, 2026 and December 17, 2027, if the schedule doesn’t change before then.
